This past week in class we discussed an AP prompt that related George Orwell's 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. I remember reading 1984 last year for summer reading but I had never heard of Brave New World until this week.
Huxley's book really interested me because it stated that the things we love will ruin us. To be quite honest, Huxley couldn't be more right.
In today's society people are constantly becoming more and more absorbed in themselves. In today's society technology runs our lives. In today's society children people don't know how to socialize with each other and establish relationships. People are constantly looking down at their phones texting each other instead of calling talking to each other face to face. I can not tell you how much this frustrates me!! Ok I'm kind of about to go off topic here and rant about this because I need somewhere to let our all these frustrations out, so why not here? I HATE SEEING KIDS TEXTING INSTEAD OF CALLING!! NEWSFLASH TEXTING IS SOOOOOO IMPERSONAL!! Not only is it impersonal but it cause confusion. Kids are becoming more antisocial because of technology and people see it but are accepting the change; people are accepting the fact that this antisocialness (is that even a word?) could be the downfall of humans. I mean come on people this isn't rocket science! Technology = melted brain = downfall of humans = ? The answer is quite simply death. Technology = melted brain = downfall of humans = death. People may not see it but relationships are essential to human existance and we cannot let the things we love ruin us. We can't let our phones, or tv, or the tabloids ruin how we live simply because we love them. If we become dependent on these shallow possessions than we will never turn back; we will never again be the race that is on the top of the food chain. We will no longer be the race that dominates the world, we will be the second. The first will be the things we love.
